I know it has been ages since I have posted on here, and more than likely anyone who read this has long taken me off their reader list, but I have felt compelled the last several days to get this going again. Since I have last posted on here:

We have had a beautiful baby girl after a pair of heart breaking miscarriages.

I started school finally.

Katie and Noah have grown into insanely cool children.

The global economic meltdown happened.

Harry Potter is no longer happening.

And the list goes on and on. My thought with the blog now is to use it as an online journal of sorts. I have really tried to study the Bible as opposed to just reading it and I am also reevaluating several aspects of my life. Just speaking honestly, I have really dropped the ball in dealing with my faith, family, job and just life in general. My hope is to use this as a sort of accountability thing because I want to be totally honest with everything. Anyway, if I post something that you like, dislike, read, were annoyed by, thought was stupid, changed your life, please let me know. I just appreciate someone taking time that could have been spent looking at a sneezing baby panda and spending it here. So thanks for that.

Ok, so the video quality in this clip is terrible, but I had to capture this moment and put it up on the www.com for the world to see. Here is the back story to this...

I get home from Zaxby's (because the Thompson family are health nuts) and Noah comes up to me saying something about his sister beating him in a game they were playing by 18 points. Then Katie came in the room and said stuff while Noah said stuff and I did not understand then did this. I asked her to do it again for the camera and now you all can witness this. The second one is more like what she did when I got here and Noah's thing is pretty awesome in itself and was his response to what she did. Apparently, she beat the level in whatever game they were playing by doing this move.

Carrie would like for me to state that Katie dressed her self. Also, Katie apparently got this idea from Andy off Toy Story. I am not sure how I missed that in those movies, but oh well...

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Maybe I will post something else sometime.

So, I was driving through southern Illinois earlier in the week and saw a billboard for Black Cat fireworks. You guys remember those? Here is what I used to buy.

Anyway, the logo on the billboard looked like this.

Now, when I was a kid, I thought the screaming cat thing was the radest thing in the history of ever. I think I may have been disillusioned about my childhood however. See, I never thought that I was a cool kid. Quite the opposite actually, which may be hard to swallow considering my love of video games and cheesy Japanese movies should place me at the pinnacle of cool. So I looked at the logo that I thought was awesome when I was a kid and decided that the only thing more redneck than that would have to be if Skoal did a deal that awarded a free mullet and sleeve less button up shirt with every can of dip.

I guess what I an trying to say is, I was a redneck when I was a kid. And not the kind that was cool with it and wore Hank Williams Jr and Dukes of Hazzard shirts. But the kind that listened to Tupac in hopes of canceling out the honky... So yeah, how awesome was I?

The Fall

I just finished watching what is quite possibly the greatest movie I have seen in the last several years. The Fall is a movie that I am sure that 99% of the people that read this blog have never heard of. The story takes place in a hospital in Los Angles in the 1920's and revolves around a man and a little girl that develop a friendship over a period of time as he makes up a story for her. I won't delve too deeply into the characters motivations here, but lets just say there is a conflict that builds between the two of them that leads to a very satisfying climax.

The story that the man tells the little girl is a fairly typical story revolving around revenge and the like, but put forth in a more light hearted way that makes it more suitable for a young child. When the movie flashes to these scenes, it makes for some of the most visually stunning shots ever put to film. Tarsem Singh, who is probably best known for directing The Cell with Jennifer Lopez (and that is one the most beautiful, terrible movies that I have ever seen) seems to try to emulate in a more surrealistic sense what Akira Kurosawa did in most all of his films, and that is frame and shoot you scenes in such a way that you almost feel like you are viewing a painting in motion. I will buy this movie on BluRay the day I buy my HDTV.

Now, it should be said that this film takes a fairly dark turn around the half way mark that may turn off some, but I thought that was where the film was the most perfect. The performances are subtle in the real world time line and way over the top in the story. One thing I failed to mention is that all of the characters in the story are based on people in the hospital or from a picture the little girl has of her family. So you get a nuanced performance and a Al Pacino in Heat performance from each character.

Overall, I can not recommend this movie enough, even though I can see where this would never be a mainstream hit. This is a movie that makes you work for the goods, but it is well worth it. 10/10.

Also, the screen caps on here are ones I did myself, as I thought it was insane that a movie that looked this stunning only had crap for screens on any sites. Let me know if you like that or if I am just full of myself or something.

More bathroom stuffs, and a question!?!? All this and more!!! Yay!

So I was talking with my buddy Andy about the bathroom post from a few days ago and I remembered a couple of other stories that I thought were pretty funny. If you do not want to hear any poo jokes, Skip the next couple of paragraphs.

So a few months ago, I was coming through Alabama on my way back home from a business trip a few months ago and I had eaten some Mexican food that was not agreeing with me. So, I feel like death and I am literally in the middle of nowhere and about to have a serious problem. I find a little grocery store (kind of like Taylor's for the Armuchee population that reads this) a have to stop. I figure it will be gross, but I gotta go. So I do the awkward poo walk into the store and ask where the bathroom is. The guy at the front points to the back around the meat/produce section. This is no joke, I walk back there and there is a toilet in a cubicle in between these two sections. The walls a so that if I was sitting there making a deposit, I could carry on a conversation with some one shopping for fresh meat and an apple without breaking eye contact. So I say, no thanks and leave.

Next place I stop is the nastiest gas station in the history of the universe. The chips on the little display in the front are covered in dust... Anyway, I make for the bathroom with the plan of doing a David Copperfield (when you levitate above the toilet so as not to be near the nasty). I open the door and there is a dude taking a leak in the sink. If there was ever a time to lock the door to the SINGLE STALL BATHROOM!!!! it would be when you decide that peeing in the toilet is not for you. Disgusted, I leave.

So now, I really feel like I am going to die. I finally find another gas station that is half way decent and stop. I go running in and the bathroom is fairly clean although it seems to be in a closet. Also, there are stairs, in the bathroom, leading to the toilet. And the toilet is on a pedestal type thingy on the top step, so if you sit down, your feet can swing wildly like you are taking a crap on a truck tail gate... Anyway, mission accomplished.

On another trip, I was in a rest stop in Iowa, and I walked up to the urinal and hanging above the row of urinals was a sign that said "Please don't go number 2 in the urinals"....

Yeah, I forgot my question, so that was kind of an underwhelming way to end this. So how about this? .... That was it... Nevermind...

That is a pretty funny movie and was honestly better than I expected. There is a little bit of language that they could have done without, but other than that there is very little objectionable material. Check it out.

Also, this is probably the closest I am ever going to be to a review again unless it is something amazing. So there.

Why is it that I can't find a pair of shorts in Georgia in early September? It does not get cold here until November and even then it is not that cold usually. The last thing I want to think about as I am sweating walking from store to store is "I really should try on a leather coat and long johns" Plus, it is 2008 people. Why are company's still making the kind of short shorts your Dad wore when he took you to the mountains for a family vacation in 1993? Does anybody outside of the criminally insane think "Exposing all my hairy man thigh, that is a good look for me"? BAH! I have spent 7 hours today and been in 3 Walmarts, Target, K-Mart (which always sucked, but now looks to me like Big Lots if they took out the 5 cool things in Big Lots and packed it with stuff that the Dollar Store said "Looked cheap") every store in the local mall, every store in the local outlet mall, and somewhere else that I forgot. So I guess I will just have to be hot and sweaty and smell like someone burned a dirty camel with a blowtorch.

And one more thing, there was a dude at the mall that smelled like a petting zoo took a bath in vanilla ice cream. Congratulation on your confusing musk, Sir Stinky!

I think it is painfully obvious to anyone who might still be checking either one of my blogs in the hope of finding a lame joke about what Batman and the Gordon's Fisherman have in common (remind me to tell you that one later) that I have pretty much failed at putting words on the interweb. So I am going to try to post to this blog regularly from now on and say bye to the other one. When I originally invented sack full of geek, my intention was to inundate my friends and family with nerdy stuff that I thought was cool. Instead, I just posted pictures that no one cared about. No more. This will now be the home to all geek thing, including reviews of movies, books, games, and more when I can come up with more. Maybe reviews is the wrong word, lets try impressions. There we go.

I watched Son of Rambow a week ago or so and I have to say I was impressed.

This movie is about a boy raised in an apparently Christian cult that is run by a group of elders that avoids any of God's love and dwells on a strict set of man made rules to keep them pure. In one part of the story, the threaten to kick out a group of members if they do not burn their daughters record player. I can not word that description like I would like to, so I am going to leave it at that.

Anyway, the boy befriends the local problem child who bootlegs movies for his older brother to sell. While hiding out at his house, the main kids watches a bootleg of First Blood and it blows his mind. This leads these two kids in a quest to win a young film makers award by filming The Son of Rambow!

This movie is a movie about kids for adults if that makes any sense. If you are a child of the 80's that grew up on the cheesy action movies of the time and played war in your back yard, then this movie is for you. I wish my friend and I were as awesome as these to kids are at coming up with stuff to do that is dangerous but awesome at the same time.

The movie is kind of like Goonies in that it takes you back to you childhood. I love movies like that.

So, I know I have not been updating either of my blogs like I said I would, but I have a pretty good reason I think. The church that Carrie and I have been going to for about the past year has asked that we help with a second location that is catering to a younger, hipper crowd (and the first thing you probably think of when you see me is hip... as in "Does he have any hips? It looks like his gut just kind of flows down to his thighs...) that may not go to the more formal church a few miles down the road. BTW, the project is much cooler than it sounds, but I am tired. Why you ask? Here goes...

After having the dumb luck of being in Houston Tx yesterday at both rush hours, hitting a detour that stopped caring about pointing you in the correct direction after about 2 miles (the detour was about 27 miles), being hungry and seeing multiple restaurants that I could not get to do to said detour, and nearly getting rear ended by a semi as I pulled into my hotel I was pretty pooped when I got to the room. I also had Tex-Mex twice yesterday because every other eatin' place was either inaccessible or had a name like "Rico's Billiards and Burgers" so I had what science has named "Goose Squirt" last night (Carrie is going to kill me for writing that...)

So I finally eat and get settled into my room about 11:00 CST last night and get ready to try to get some sleep. About 11:15, I hear a guy racing his engine out side the room. I roll over and thing that it is not that big of a deal, I am in Texas after all. He does this for about five minutes... I get out of the bed to go say something and he peels off, I think, leaving the hotel. But then I hear the truck backing into a parking space right outside my room. He gets out of his truck talking on his cell phone really loud like people used to do at the mall before everyone had a cell phone and they wanted you to look at them and their space aged technology. Now I am getting angry. It is late, I am tired, and this guy is just being obnoxious right outside my room. He locks the door to his truck and keeps hitting the lock button so the car goes "Beep...Beep...Beep" about 15 feet from where I am laying. I get up and go to the door to look out the peep hole at this guy and he looks like the guy who built my house (and if any of you know me, you know how I feel about that guy) Now I just can't help myself, I have to go out there and talk to this guy because it has been a couple of minutes and he is still honking his horn with the door locky clicky thing. As I am putting on my shirt, it stops. I open the door and he is walking into his room (which, as luck would have it, is right next to mine). So I go back to my room and sit on my bed fully clothed, waiting on an excuse to go ask this guy to shut up. I wait for an hour and he is silent.

So there, not sure why I felt I had to go into great detail about a non conflict but there you go.

Look, I love Christmas as much as the next guy, but This is a little crazy. We should not be closing in on Saint Patty's day with a reindeer and Santa on out front porch. What do you guys think?

Speaking of Christmas, I think it is funny that the year that we have succeeded in potty training both of our children, we go out and buy my oldest a doll that craps. If you get one of those, avoid the plastic "wipe out" diapers and just buy a pack of newborn diapers. The plastic ones a like a poop launcher and when Baby Alive goes number two she usually has diarrhea...

I am trying to post a post on this thing, but I keep getting interrupted by the stupid parade and there is nothing I can do about it. I hope your day is going better than mine...

I really feel like God is wanting me to do something with people (and yes I can be more vague thank you very much) but I am having the hardest time liking people now. It seems like everyone I am dealing with is drowning a Double Gulp (copyrighted by 7-11) of idiocy before they come talk to me.

Food for thought

I had kind of hit a road bump in my renewed drive to walk with the Lord recently. Faith is something that I have always had a hard time with as I am kind of a "show me" kind of guy. I have felt the presence of God quite often recently but always question whether or not it is real or just something I want to feel that I convinced my self I felt. (I hope that made sense. Me = poor writer) It has really bothered me but I continued to read the Word and pray, asking God to help me with this.

So, at Church last night we hit the mid-way point in a class we are in called Driven By Eternity. In this lesson, we talked about how heaven is described in the Bible in various chapters. Most of it was what you had heard forever, streets of gold etc. But he mentioned some things that I had never heard of before regarding the people that live through the tribulation. I won't go into it here because I will butcher it and sound like an idiot but it made me think.

Afterwards, we were hanging out with some friends that are also in our class talking about it and kind of comparing what we had been taught about heaven and the end times with each other. One of us started asking about faith (and I really wish I had heard what he had said because it would make this so much better) and I was hit with the fact that faith is not something that can be learned. There are mysteries in the Bible to build our faith in God. If the Bible had all the answers laid out plain as day it would not build faith, but only knowledge. Not that there is anything wrong with knowledge, but the thrill of discovery through faith in Christ Jesus is an amazing part of being a believer. If we knew everything about God's plan and why He does what He does now, we would be following with our minds and not our hearts. It is not supposed to be easy because nothing in life that is worth doing is.

So I guess what I am trying to say here is that God has shown me that it is OK to ask questions and wonder about why things happen the way they do. I hope this is not to poorly worded. Have a great week.

On the road again

So I actually started this post last week, but lost my internet connection and then forgot. So when you read this post, pretend it was last week.

I am not sure what the developers of Hampton VA were thinking when they laid out the town I am now in on business, but you would have thought that having accurate signs and what not would be a semi priority, right? Last night I was driving around looking for a place to buy laundry detergent and not having much luck. I finally saw a sign for Wal-Mart and proceeded to try to fight the traffic to get over in the correct lane. I failed that endeavor and had to drive up to the next red light and turn around in pretty heavy traffic for seven on a Wednesday night. Anyway, I pull into the "Wal-Mart parking lot" and it is just a Wal-Mart sign in the parking lot of a car dealership. I drive for several minuets, thinking it may just be behind the car lot, but no. No Wal-Mart, just a sign.

Then I ate soup from a Vietnamese place that tasted like hot garbage with a hint of mint

It has been crazy busy on the Thompson farm lately. We started out helping my buddy Andy and his familia move in to a new casa in South Georgia. I already talked about that last week, but what was not mentioned is the fact that I can not be in a picture with this guy and not do something stupid. Case in point

Here is a training montage from the Turkish version of Star Wars. The film makers basically stole shots of the death star and some Tie fighters and put them in with a guy that looks like Tatoo from Fantasy Island all grown up playing patty cake with rocks. Greatest. Movie. Evar!!!111!

So it has been a few days since I wrote about anything, and I thought I would just through some stuff down here to kind of catch up on the whirlwind life of Corey J Thompson Esq. the first.

So, we went to help my best friend and his wife (I think she is my best friend in law) move into their new casa in Hahira Ga. We had as good a time as one can have when moving is involved and I got to drive a hand truck full of books off the side of the loading ramp. I also got to see their two boys who are both awesome, although I think the youngest is a little frightened by me for some reason. It may be the fact that I am 6'6'' and close to 300 lbs so to him I am just a giant gut with a beard. The house is very nice and I am excited for the family. See, I can put nice stuff on here...

My kids started school this week and the commute is rad. There is rarely ever any traffic on the stairs leading to our basement and we seem to always get there on time.

Stuff and thing

First of all, thank you for all the kind words about my daughter and my quest to be a decent person. You guys are all rad.

Now, time for "Stuff I am tired of"' a new segment where I list stuff I am tired of. So, without further ado, in no particular order.....the stuff

1: I am tired of the room under my living room. It smells like basement and has become a money pit. The people that built my house have never heard of this new fangled gadget called a "Level" that says if things are straight or not. They also used some kind of Martian uber tree for the floor joists, that is so powerful if broke 2 titanium drill bits and made me feel like a toddler while trying to puncture it with a nail.

B: I am tired of having to wait for the lady ahead of me in line at Food Lion buying blond highlights to wait until the cashier has bagged said head jelly before digging through her purse to find her check book. Then she fills it out and has to find her ID for the cashier which takes another lifetime. IT IS 2007, DO YOU NOT HAVE A CHECK CARD?!?! BAH!

4: I am tired of the fact that my Xbox 360 sound like someone is trying chop down a tree with a helicopter and that it keeps resetting the internal clock. I think it is about to crap out on me and that is going to be very much like poo

Wait, what??!? You mean this is not just an avenue to say stupid stuff about pop culture and all the what not?!? No, actually, it is not.

I have decided to re-dedicate my life to Jesus Christ, as I am tired of playing church. God has done so much for my family, and I have done nothing but act like a loser on this stuff. "I don't have time to read my bible! I don't wanna go to church!'' Jesus died for me, and all he asks is that I follow him. And this is how I act.

Pray for me friends (I guess I am asking Carrie to pray for me, I think she is the only person who reads this besides me) because I really am tired of how I live.
